Can ultrasonic extractors extract compounds from algae and plants in the ocean?

1. Principle and Applicability
Ultrasonic extraction utilizes the high pressure and temperature generated by cavitation effect to destroy the cell wall/membrane of algae and release intracellular compounds. Marine algae (such as brown algae, red algae, green algae) usually have tough cell structures, and ultrasound can efficiently break down these cells, especially suitable for extracting the following components:

Polysaccharides (such as fucoidan and agar in brown algae)

Lipids (such as DHA, EPA, or biodiesel raw materials in microalgae)
Proteins and Peptides
Pigments (such as chlorophyll, carotenoids)
Antioxidants (such as polyphenols, phycocyanin)

2. Advantages

Efficient and fast: The extraction time is short (usually several minutes to tens of minutes), and the efficiency is higher than traditional solvent soaking or mechanical grinding.

Low temperature operation: Temperature can be controlled through a cooling system to protect thermosensitive substances such as certain enzymes or vitamins.

Environmental friendliness: Reduce the amount of organic solvents used, in line with the trend of green chemistry.

Wide applicability: It can handle dry algae powder or wet algae samples and is suitable for laboratories or industrial equipment of different scales.
